Working the drops in Santa Fe

Working the drops in Santa Fe

The Scottish Rite Cathedral in Santa Fe was built 100 years ago. This is a picture of my new workplace as I have the honor of running the drops on the Stage Crew. 100 years ago these hemp ropes first lifted the drops into place and one of my Scottish Rite Brothers went to work. For 100 years someone has sat in this loft to make sure that the show went on. For two weekends a year, I now sit in their chair, walk their fly loft…I live in their footsteps. Footsteps that will be filled by another Brother and he to the next…and he to the next…

About Hiram

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It and Other Stories
